Quite right, medsec222.

I would add that this attitude is not now confined to people in government jobs.

It's an attitude that comes, in my opinion, from living in an affluent, money-grabbing, thoughtless society.

I disagree, John, it is an attitude of nobody taking responsibility for the decisions they make.

Those in high positions sign these decisions off, yet when they go wrong the lower tiers get the blame. Those at the top get moved sideways, or upwards, and the others get the sack.

It is not money-grabbing, per Se, it is protection of the ineffectual yet well connected.

Whether these recent floods are a result of global warming or not, something positive needs to be done.

For people to have to suffer to this degree time and time again in a civilised country is just not acceptable.

Particularly when the minister responsible for waterways has been sunning himself in Barbados in his luxurious dwelling.
He has returned home under protest refuses to apologise to the suffering public whose homes and livelihoods are ruined.. Am I right when I state I think he has been Knighted by his dear friend Cameron.? Time for a clean out in Westminster from top to bottom in all parties who are making fools of the British public 7 percent increase in salary? Money grabbing lot whose offences are hidden under the table. "We need Workers for the people for the people. Not Shirkers"

I don't think we can blame him for being on holiday in Barbados. Whats he supposed to do? Never go on holiday or only venture as far as Great Yarmouth?

He should have come home as soon as the flooding got bad, and earned his £100k pa. He wasn't on a rare and much-looked-forward-to package holiday, he owns a home there that he goes to several times a year. He criticised the previous incumbent of his position for similar behaviour (ie not stepping in straight away when there were bad floods) and said in the same circumstances he would put on his wellies straight away and step up to the plate - it was pure lip service! He's spent all day today in the North dodging reporters!

The Environment Agency is a massive Quango, a gravy train - Mick has had business dealings with them and says they are really top heavy with management...

Thanks Kaz I agree, these MP's are self serving, they certainly don't serve the public.. I am sick of the corruption, the way everyone who commits a crime whether it be cheating the tax payer by falsely claiming none existent expenses, protecting
Paedophiles, accepting payments in return for titles. Whatever the crime it is hidden. 90 percent of them are not fit for purpose and the sooner these wastes of space are exposed publicly the better. Happy New Year to you and yours Kaz.. Thanks for all you Mick and others do on VV.xxxx

Its always lip service. I'd rather he stayed abroad than came offering false sympathy and then sodding off back to his expensive house. Its like David Cameron donning his wellies and wandering about, what good does it do?

He can get on the phone from Barbados and start arranging what is going to happen to prevent this happening again and how they are going to start helping sort the damage. He doesn't need to drive up North in his gas guzzling 4X4 with his entourage.

The days of the Queen Mother in the blitz are long gone. They are not needed in the vicinity, they need to put their money where their mouths are and that can be done from anywhere in the world these days

But my opinion is probably very different to everyone elses. I just wouldn't want them shaking my hand and pasting insincere smiles on their faces and causing more water flood back with their camera cars etc
