David Bowie

I'm afraid I'm one of the minority who never "got" David Bowie.

Did his music / style appeal to you?

My first memory of him was watching Space Oddity on TOTP in Mr Osc's then flat in 1969 - the flat was in what is now our house so we have come full circle. I loved most of his big hits and could recognise that he was a very rare and immense artistic and musical talent. I was never an albums person, so it was just the hits. There are not many of his kind left, and certainly no one today has one tenth of his talent and vision.

I really liked him though I think I only own a couple of albums, Aladdin Sane being one of them. I went to see him, it was some time in the mid to late 70's, somewhere in London, Brixton Acadamy I think.

I loved him. I was talking to my sister on the phone last night, and she said one of the strongest memories she has of our teens is of me playing his music over and over again, and of the massive poster of him (the Aladdin Sane one) that I had on my bedroom wall

He was an extraordinary man, a talent that reinvented himself over and over again, and quite a nice man too it seems, from some of the anecdotes I've read since his death xxx

A huge impact for me, from the first playing of Space Oddity - I was always aware of what was new, and that was so different to anything else.
So many songs since, part of the fabric of my life.

I did have a very good friend whose wife worked for him for quite a few years, I've often wished I'd pushed to meet him but am not like that.
We did get Vip tickets for a Brian Eno concert though

Like Kaz I was always a big fan from the very start, his death has hit me quite hard - mostly I think because his music and my passion for that shaped my early growing up years
