I really did not want to watch this, looking at people's disabilities isn't entertainment. I lived that life with my disabled brother and, nah, it's not on - Tourette's, Autism, nah.

But then I was flicking through the channels and something made me stop. Am I glad I did!

The guy with Tourette's took some photos that were out of this world. He had no training, it was just a hobby to take his mind off the ticks and whistles, but his work was spectacular and some of it will be published.

Then there was Brett with Autism. His forte was his logical mind and when he was taken on by a software company he instantly took to whatever computer task the gave him and he ended up with a job with them.

I didn't see the credits for the programme. Something got in my eyes just before the programme ended, a fly or dust or something, and I had to wipe them with my hankie.

We had a guy at work who was quite severely autistic, he was brilliant at troubleshooting IT/software problems, and actually quite friendly if you bothered to learn how to best communicate with him.
But you did have to bother.
As a reward, the more you bothered, the more he tried to understand what was an appropriate response, but it was a very slow process.
Work situations are hard, noisy and/or busy environments, with lots of people coming and going, would more often than not be a complete disaster.

I watched it WM and found it very interesting. The young man with autism just wanted to do a good job and to be accepted. I thought it was wonderful that he was given the opportunity to express his thoughts and it highlighted the fact that while he had difficulties, he was the same as everyone there.
My heart really went out to the older chap. What a difficult time he has had. His photographs were wonderful and hopefully he will now progress in that career.

I broke down when the software boss just about cracked at the Autism guy's speech. He only just held it together and you could see that he was holding back the tears. You could also see tears in the faces of the other members of staff.

Great programme.

I was a teacher and a trainer so standing up in front of people holds no fears for me, so Tom did really well to overcome his fears.

But that Ashley: wow! I would have sh1t myself trying to be an auctioneer.
