Dodgy update

Postby pederito1 » 29 Apr 2016, 10:48

Had an update from AMD catalyst control centre and it seems to have blocked google chrome and other browsers I try to download or install except that comodo dragon works but it has a security warning, Have W10, can any expert help please? The help with the AMD thing says it cannot be displayed, nor does system restore work. Suppose it is a virus.

I doubt it's a virus Ped. More likely it broke your AV.

What Antivirus do you use?

I thought that AMD dropped the catalyst software some time last year? And I do not understand why an update would knock out some browsers but leave others alone.

If it was me I would run a full AV scan, then probably remove AMD Catalyst using the W10 removal system, but before doing so I would make sure that the old version was available either in the laptop's recovery folder or on disc.

Thanks chaps. The update won`t delete and I have done a scan in AVG but no threats found. If only the system restore would work :( :(

How about reinstalling the non-working browsers - nothing to lose?

I think I might try going to AMD and downloading their latest catalyst.

Nothing to lose and it will fix anything wrong.
