Shaz, the Scotland Act 2016 does indeed say that, you are right, but what I was reading said they were the Acts of the UK Parliament and as with any such Acts they can be repealed by the UK Parliament.

I understood that the 2016 Act was to reassure the Scots that there would be no interference in its devolved powers from Westminster 'under normal circumstances'.

I'm not so sure you are right WM. I think this whole part of the discussion is like a great many things at present-it's taking us into new waters, and there are no correct answers. I've just had a quick look around( I'm in the process of making dinner) and it's been suggested that the courts may have to decide if Westminster tried to repeal the Scottish Parliament.
I can't find any reference to the part about "under normal circumstances" but you may be correct there.

I think the above may depend on what side of the fence you are looking at it from. I honestly don't see it like that-I just see it as her doing her job as the elected leader of Scotland.

Onto another possible solution being suggested;

Shaz, my reference was from a long piece by a professor of international law at the University of Edinburgh. I didn't bookmark it and my browsing history is wiped when Opera is closed. If I find it again I will link it.

Strange that you should mention Greenland. I had never thought of it, but he had. From what I remember it got very technical.

Greenland remains part of Denmark, but is out of the EU. It was so remote and culturally different from Denmark that the Danes awarded it self-governance. Greenland then held a referendum on the old EEC and opted out. It was Denmark that negotiated its terms for exit with the EEC. It hopes to be fully independent by 2021.

What a reverse Greenland is baffles me. I have no idea what it will or could be. If it is the opposite of the above then I cannot see it working, but it will be interesting to see how the idea develops.

I should feel elated at the results but I'm just depressed. I'll snap out of it soon.
But it's just revealed the depths of anger and even hate in our society, and the utter cluelessness of our MP's.

For instance - where are they? What's the plan? Cameron, Osborne? No sign. Same for Johnson and Gove.

Meanwhile the "Liberal Democrats" cheerfully say they will campaign to take us back into the EU. Very liberal; very democratic. As for the Labour party, crikey. MP's who were parachuted into their constituencies from London and who it has been absolutely proved, do NOT represent the views of their constituents, turn on Corbyn saying it's all his fault.

Anyway, one slight laugh is to be had about the petition WM, and here it is.

Did you see my earlier post......... the petition was started by an English Democrat activist and Leaver because he was worried that Remain would win.

Yes, it's all a bit mad really.

One thing that has really upset me is the casual dismissal of the "old, less well educated Leave voters" by some Remainers (not you though Frank). Until the 1960's it was actually bloody difficult to get into University, as opposed to today when it seems difficult to avoid it. Which means the casual assumption of intellectual superiority is inaccurate.
