So, it is Angela Eagle, at least, to take on Corbyn.

I cannot take this seriously. Angela, a dynamic leader to take the party forward, not a chance.

I think that she has been put up as a sacrificial lamb to test the waters. If she comes close, step in the big hitters, if there are any. Fail, and it is back to the business of Blairites bitching and moaning and destroying Labour.

Well done chaps and chapesses, you deserve each other.

I had no idea who she was until I saw her being interviewed the other night. Bottom lip quivering, eyes filling up and both Tim and I said "well she'll be good in a crisis, not"

I bet the Tories can't believe their luck. Prime Minister calls an unnecessary referendum, loses it. He resigns, other side of referendum (also led by Tories) are in disarray with no plan to go forward. Disaster.

Until you look at Labour.

Blimey O'Riley, they are geting rid of Corbyn because he is "unelectable" and replacing him with......... Angela Eagle????? :shock:

She's less electable than he is! "Vote for Rosa Klebb!" No, I can't see it at all. Her habitual expression is that of someone who has just supped a quick half of vinegar.

So I'm with WM, because if Eagle wins the Labour leadership she won't win a general election, if she loses Labour reckon that Corbyn won't win a general election. So in either circumstance I can only see another Labour leadership election between now and the next GE.

I can't remember such barmy times in politics as these!

It is, to be fair, a really fun time in politics in the UK. In a fit of "fairness" the Labour party decided to ensure that Labour party members got to select their leader. Only to have the party taken over by hardliners who will always vote in a candidate who is unacceptable to the electorate. Effectively emasculating Labour as a potential party in Government...

I find this hilarious... Not good for country as a whole in the long term but, in the short term, with the Tories doing a good self flagellation act, not that bad either.

I thought that it was also Conservative party members who chose the leader and that anyone could join the party at any time.

I know it is a torturous process when there are two or more candidates, with Tory MPs (only) holding a series of FPTP 'Devil takes the hindmost' elections until only two candidates are left, but it is only semi-democratic when it is MPs who really get to decide who the plebs can vote for.

OMOV now operates in both parties, but one version is more democratic than the other.

Democracy is a wonderful tool. The Communists used it to oppress millions of people for decades... Democracy is a fantastic tool when everyone believes in it and plays by the rules. As soon as someone decides to use the rules to play against the rules, Democracy rapidly becomes the Deus ex machina of the oppressors....

I am watching the football and somebody mentioned West Germany, not Germany, and suddenly Gisela Stuart's name popped into my head as a good challenger to Corbyn. Hmm.
