Dippy things

Postby tonicha » 26 Aug 2016, 20:07

Please bear in mind I can't get a lot of stuff that you can over there, but I need ideas for Monday afternoon.

I'm going to do chicken breasts, with garlic and cheese, wrapped in presunto and then sliced, so they'll be cold. Also some cheese and onion flan, also cold. Some weirdo German meatball thingies cold, cold spicy weirdo sausages, cold roast taters, with lots of local pepper and salt, crisps, because Mick likes crisps

It's just an informal pick and chat thingy, so no need for rice, salads, breads, but was wondering about dips. And how to make them.

I can get creme fraiche, natural yogurt, just need ideas, please xx

Mix yoghurt and creme fraiche with garlic, a little salt & pepper, chopped fresh herbs (whatever you have, e.g. thyme, parsley); taste, maybe a squeeze of lemon. Leave out herbs if you haven't got them.

Mix yoghurt with lime juice and turmeric.
Mix creme fraiche with Dijon mustard.
Mix creme fraiche with piri-piri, and maybe lemon juice.
Mix creme fraiche & yoghurt with curry powder.

Any good?

Just to add to Di's excellent list ...

Yog or cf with finely chopped chives, mint and cucumber
Ketchup with curry powder

And you know that Piri-piri oil thing you sent me, add a spoon of honey and some soy sauce, it's delish.

Flor das Hortas

I mix a bit with veg oil and a splash of lemon or lime or balsamic and S&P to dress salads. It adds a bit of a kick - gorgeous. :Hi:

Forget the chives, then, just use mint and cucumber.

Or go freestyle and use whatever you find in the house and garden. 8-)

I was going to add finely-chopped spring onion to the first one (with the garlic), but didn't know if you had it, so yes use that, lovely :D

We look to be on the same page, Di, once the base is there almost anything goes. :D :D :D

Jamie did one the other day to go with plain chicken. It was called "mole" and is a chilli sauce with a hint of dark chocolate.

We both love dips and meals that include them - potato wedges ? - I'll make a dip :D
Middle Eastern feast? - I'll make hummous and tzatziki :D (actually Bb makes the hoummus, he's really good at at)
Barbequed chicken (or lamb, anything) - I'll make some dips :D
Chicken tandoori/tikka? - I'll make raita :D - oh, and mayo or yoghurt mixed with mango chutney and a bit of chilli sauce, plus fresh mint if you have it ;)
Yoghurt mixed with lime pickle is ace, with or without turmeric :)
