We got ours just over five years ago.

I was telling John and the boys the other week about when my Mom got her first microwave, in the early 80s. Her friend Peggy came round to look at it and sat in the middle of the kitchen on a dining chair, watching a sponge pudding going around and around

As a family we sat infront of the dishwasher and watched it wash for the first time, the entire cycle. Nothing to see though!

If you have some type of consumer protection law over there, I would assume that this would be covered. Our law her states "the reasonable time an item should last for". I would expect a microwave to last far more than 2 years, so our law says, even if it is out of warranty, it would still be deemed faulty, and therefore the problem should be rectified at no cost.

Blimey Frank, yes get in touch with the store you got it from (helpful if you still have the receipt but not essential I wouldn't have thought) and explain the issue. They should last longer than that!

I've had mine since 1994......

Gal, it's out of guarantee and the model is discontinued.

For £30-odd it is not worth the hassle - lesson learned. The next one will be from a known manufacturer with a good reputation. There are times when it is worth forking out a bit more.

We tend to buy cheapish ones and replace every couple of years - they aren't built to last any more and like you say Frnk, for £30 not worth the hassle :?

You've been really lucky with yours Gal, but in the early 90s I think stuff was still built to last :) 8-)
