Harry's college

Postby Kaz » 07 Sep 2016, 07:31

We've had a bit of a shock as the college H was promised a place at, Strodes in Egham, changed their minds, so he's now going to Brooklands. Their argument is that although H got the grades they wanted he might struggle to keep up and they don't offer the lower level version of the Sports B Tech if he needed to drop down a grade, whereas Brooklands do.

I think that Strodes have behaved appallingly by leaving it until the week before they start to tell him, and if Harry was upset we'd have taken it further, but he's decided he's happy about Brooklands, and one of his friends is going there too, so we're leaving it.

The course is exactly the same, just the location switched from Egham to Weybridge.......

That's how I feel, they seem more concerned with their results than helping a young man fulfil his potential. Tell you what, it's their loss, H would be an asset to their rotten college :( :(

He's worked soooo hard to achieve what he has, how dare they knock him back like this? Thank goodness H is ok about it or I would be furious. Well, even more furious

That is rather very bad Kaz and whilst Harry may be OK about it, I think I'd still take it further if I were you. You won't change the fact that H is now going to Brooklands, but it may make them realise that what they've done is not right and you may prevent it happening to another child; one who may not take it as well as Harry did.

Best of luck to Harry; I'm sure he'll do super well xxx

Rather off giving this news so near to the start of the new term.

The main thing is that Harry is happy and still doing the course he really wants to do - I was going to say you're doing the right thing letting things be; but on reflection I'd write them a stinky letter.

As you said...their loss.

Harry will do well of that I'm sure. xx

I'd be furious too Kaz  , very poor way to carry on by the college especially as term is just about to start. I'm so relieved for you all that H is ok about it, but I would certainly be complaining to someone about this last minute decision. After all, another child could be absolutely devastated.

Oh Kaz, I'd be absolutely hopping mad. It's inexcusable for them to leave telling him this late in the day, it could have prevented him getting a suitable place elsewhere. Thank goodness H is happy with Brooklands.

Definitely write them a letter of complaint, okay it won't change anything for H, but it might make them behave better in the future.

Very bad of them to leave it so late
Pleased H is still happy, that's the main thing, and maybe Brooklands treat people better in general.
I would suggest leaving it a day, so you can think about just how to word the letter. They definitely should give more thought to how they communicate!
