Hi all - no sunshine today and a lot cooler - actually it's a nice change!! Last full day at work, after Saturday morning I am off a week (going to the van Sat pm) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Kaz I agree with the others - as mums we are duty bound to worry and fret, but as has been said, H is a confident young man and I'm sure he will find his feet very soon xx

Hope everyone has a good day - think we might finally get to the quiz tonight!!!

Kaz, he'll be fine once he's settled in, it's a massive change for them and such a huge difference to school but he's an amazing lad - as he's already shown - and he'll be grand.
Joe made me laugh yesterday, he'd had a welding class (which he thought was brilliant) and was telling me about how different the tutors treat them compared to the teachers at school..."they even swear" he said.
Which made me wonder what had happened in the welding booth to make a tutor swear

Osc, I've never been to Boston (yet). One time we went to NY we decided to have a day away so it was either Boston or Washington by train and we decided on Washington because of the Air and Space Museum for the boys. Wonderful city, I loved it, and the train ride was great. You're right, it's a great way to see the country. We went through Philadelphia and Baltimore on the way and lots of lovely countryside and the trains are so much nicer than ours aren't they! So spacious!

I agree about the trains in America Jo - how come the UK gets it so wrong compared to there and Europe.

I have no idea. There was a news item the other week about the London Midland franchise coming to an end and whoever ends up winning the franchise will be given permission to remove a number of seats in order to get more standing passengers on :x

Standard class on US trains is better than travelling first class here. Tom paid around £70 for what is a 7+ hour round trip, and his pass that he's bought for 7 days unlimited use of the Subway in New York has cost $31, so roughly £23.
It's £12 for a day in London!

We tend to use the trains and buses when we're in the UK ,and whilst on the whole the service is good (the buses more so) and cheap enough (Brum to Nottingham is usually a bargain on trainline.com ) we always book seats way in advance as we've been on the train and have been gobsmacked at how packed it is.

I adore train travel but sadly it isn't always a pleasure to do so in the UK. :(

Well I went, Matalan was rubbish, they did have the duvet covers but only in double; our bed's double but a king size duvet - I shall go back to trawling online ;)

BUT, it was well worth going, you'll never guess what else has just opened alongside it? - TKMaxx :Hi: :Hi: :Hi:
We don't have anything like either near here, it's Southampton or Bournemouth, so it's ever so exciting :D
I had to buy two tops just so I believed it when I got home :D

We had the most horrendous journey from Manchester earlier in the year. We got on the train back to Stafford at Piccadilly, which is it's starting point, and it was rammed. There were even people packed like sardines in the toilets. We had reserved seats and couldn't get to them.
