I'm the only one steaming here, when I mop, so I might just have to look into this steam mop, as all our flooring is tiled.

Onto Jen's refurb.

Jen, Did terry have any plans? Did he run it past an architect? I spoke to Grumpy about it yesterday, as he was i the trade for all his working life - and as he said, if you're happy with his bricklaying skills, then that was probably what he was, on sites, but thought he could branch out and is now subbing out the other work, but is not so hot on the second fix. Which is where, as you've found - all the mistakes and problems occur.

Sounds as if you have a good one in Steve and hope he can over-come all the niggles.

Is Terry in any sort of federation? If so, inform them of your concerns - won't help you, but may help other people.

Such a shame we're over here, I'd send Grumpy over to sort it all out for you.

Ton, you should definitely get a steam mop if you are tiled all the way through - they are brilliant!

We had an architect draw up the plans and they were passed by the building regs people Ton. Nolan the architect is very well known and building regs deal with him a lot without any hassle. Terry handed the plans back to us when he started and didn't open them again as far as I'm aware, he seemed to know exactly what he was doing, but as you say it's second fixing stage when all the mistakes show up. We had to chase him a lot to get things finished off properly so lots of lost time. Also he went AWOL for at least a month when you add it all up. It's his behaviour when things go wrong which is the biggest drain. The issue with the driveway was an awful row, he actually threatened to walk leaving us with lots of work outside unfinished, some he'd already been paid for. Completely undermined our trust in him which he didn't seem to understand. In the end it did all get done, but I felt that was more because he didn't want to lose face with Steve more than because it was the right thing to do. The row over the door went on for a couple of hours too

I'm amazed at Terry handing the plans back to you Our plans were permanently on site, they ended up well used and grand and dirty. If there was any issue, they could be referred to instantly. Mr Osc knew them inside out too, which was a help. Such a nightmare, Jen, just hang in there and know you will never do it again
