"If the Commons is serious about being truly representative of the people that it seeks to represent, it must rise to the challenge of being a world leader on women's parliamentary representation."
Well if we follow that logic should there not be minimums for blacks, Asian, Catholics, Muslims, left-handers, homosexuals (both genders), tall, short, fat or thin?
I have this novel idea for them to consider: the best person for the job becomes the candidate. If that happens to be a black left-handed lesbian then she gets chosen.
Of course getting to be a candidate is one thing, getting enough votes to win a seat is another. Maybe the MPs have plans to make a vote for a woman worth more than for a man, just to make sure. The formula would have to be different for each constituency and the number of votes cast, but I am sure they can come up with something to get 45% of all MPs women, regardless of how good, bad or indifferent they are, into the Commons.
