A quick question...

Have any of you used Sony PlayMemories for uploading images from your devices to the cloud, and is it any good and easy to use?

It is a question I have been asked for my voluntary work, but I cannot get it to run. I have downloaded from Sony and installed it, but all it does is freeze and cannot continue. According to Sony it still has bugs.

It looks to be doing something similar to Google's, now dropped, Picasa, but in the cloud.

Any help, suggestions or comments will be much appreciated.

So, after more than two hours of fruitless playing with it and doing a lot of reading it turns out that it only really works with Sony devices such as phones, cameras and PlayStation, and it is not free.

Registration is free, but the apps to make things work are to be bought, and they only apply to a limited range of Sony devices and a different app for each device.

It can be used offline as an image viewer and organiser, but it is a huge install at 654MB(!) and there are loads of other programs to do the same using fewer resources, and they are free.

It's main selling point, if that is how to describe it, is to sync all your devices. Well I can do that without a 654MB program, thanks all the same, Sony.

If any of you get pestered to use this I would stay clear.

I have a Sony camera Frank, I've had it around 18 months but this app just seemed like too much hassle so it's never been installed. I remember reading at the time that the apps had to be purchased.

Jo, my emergency phone, kept in the car, is a Sony Xperia Miro. Its charging lead is also a data cable and if I want to hook it to my laptop I just plug it in a usb slot same as I do my Cannon camera and SanDisc mp3 player.

I used to think that Samsung did the very worst phone software but this thing take the (very big) biscuit.
