Wood burners

I know they are not the cleanest form of heating, but there is something magical about the smell from one wafting over the rooftops. It is like stepping into a fantasy world.

I loved mine, in our older houses, but they are hard work

We are surrounded by trees and a Sycamore was felled in November. The ground is a bit boggy and sometimes the older trees start to fail. I guess that one of the houses is using it as fuel.

I was on my way to the shop and the smell was just so gorgeous.

We have two - one free-standing, called a salamander and the other is inset. The salamander has a pipe which goes up into the roof, so the pipe also warms up nicely too

We burn oak and olive wood and as it's the only form of heating we have (apart from the sun) we're quite used to it.

Yes, it can be a bit dusty and yes, it's a pain to get wood when it's chucking it down outside, but we need the warmth

I would (no pun intended) like one, but always have a nagging thought that they might be banned eventually. There is something really nice about seeing the flames and feeling the warmth from them.

We lit the salamander last night, which is the other side of the room. And whilst it was warm, I kept on looking at the one in the fire-place So we'll be lighting that one tonight
