So when Tusk writes, in his letter to the 27 states

We must be left wondering how this magic has occurred. Before the states joined the EU they were fully sovereign and independent states. Now that we have A50 and the ability to leave the EU in a managed way, we're told "you can't have your sovereignty back".

During Brexit we were told that the Boogeyman would come and get us unless we were good little boys and girls and did what the "adults" told us to do and vote Remain.

I have a new name for the EU. The BORG.

Tusk may be flapping at 25,000 feet with his sphincter having palpitations, but that does not mean the rest of us are blind, deaf and dumb. Much as he would like us to be. This kind of thing is only grist to the mill for Le Pen and Wilders. What does he think people hear? You were sovereign once but giving up that and getting 1/27th of a vote is much better and you can never _ever_ go back?

Does any of this matter any more?

Despite all the scaremongering we are going to trigger A50, and we are going to leave the EU. Hopefully we will get the hardest of hard Brexits, you know, the one Leavers positively voted for in the referendum where we get our 'Sovereignty' back, control immigration and can make bilateral trade deals with all and sundry except the Klingons and the BORG, obviously.

Yes but for a senior EU minister to stand up and, essentially, say that EU membership is forever and that nobody can have their sovereignty back after leaving is such a crock.

Fortunately the UK leaving will prove that.

That is rather sinister. It is definitely a threat. So who is going to stop nation states regaining their sovereignty, and why? There is definitely an elite group of people somewhere who have planned the future, and at the moment their plan is hitting a few speed bumps. So who are they, why are they doing it, why is the nation state such a bad thing..? So many questions, and nobody seems interested in looking into them, or providing any answers.

Oh it's a threat all right. Hence the title of my post, poking some fun at it.

Let's postulate an alternate theory. The current shenanigans in the French presidential elections allow Le Pen in. She manages to get a referendum and the French vote to leave on the back of the UK Brexit; which is going rather well right now.

The rEU would then be sitting there with no nuclear weapons, 100% of their military strike capacity gone, left with a bad relationship with the president of the US and an worsening relationship with the UK and a rapidly deteriorating relationship with France.

Oh and to put the icing on the cake, no permanent seat on the UN security council. Or put another way, NO seat on the UN security council.

It is interesting to surmise just how rapidly the EU could go from Global trading superstate to an also ran nobody composed of the "Loser 26".

When we think about that, it is no wonder at all that the EU "organs" are spewing threats and dire predictions.
