Trumpisms

Postby Suff » 09 Feb 2017, 17:12

So now Corbyn is accusing the BBC of peddling fake news... One of Trumps favourite sayings. Now we all know the BBC has been making "stuff" up for years now, but it's interesting that Labour doesn't like it when their turn comes around.

May has also been using Trumpisms with "Alternate Facts".

I wonder how many more Trump sound bytes will make it into our lexicon over the next 4 years. Well at least life is not going to be boring..

All this stuff about fake news and living in the post truth era does make me smile.

It's not that long since this country was being run by people like Blair, Campbell and Mandelson. Was that a golden era of truth? I don't think so! dodgy dossiers, weapons of mass destruction etc etc.

All the fuss just comes down to this; it's a struggle for influence. There are other sources of news now and it isn't so easy to influence how people think, so accusations of lies and fake news are flying around, trying to discredit news sources which don't follow the BBC / Sky / CNN line.

I agree with both of you .

But I often watch BBC at 10 then go on ITV at 11 on +1 hour same day same hour and two totally different sets of news??

Also I often read online articles on for example a tuesday and it might be thursday before either BBC or ITV carry the same "news" as if it just happenned, whereas it might have happenned 48 hours previously.

Another gripe with them all is that their versions are often biased in some way and not the same as I had previously read.

Still I guess I am naive at heart.

I do wish everyone was more open and honest tho these days, and not hiding some hidden agenda to suit themselves.

The EU is making an art of "Alternative Truth".

Now they are saying that Trump and Brexit is going to harm the EU economy. Well get outta here. Last I heard from them it would be that the UK would be ostracised by the world. Ministers from the "member states" were telling us that the UK would be insignificant in the world and Obama was in his "back of the queue" mode.

I was totally consistent. The world, all of it except the EU apparently, does not ignore the 5th largest economy in the world when it suddenly comes up for trading rights.

Juncker, who was telling the UK it was going to be "2 years and out" and the "UK was going to have to take what was offered", is now claiming the UK will "divide and rule" in the EU by offering different offers to different countries in the EU. Well they should know all we needed to do was watch them and emulate them, they've been doing that forever and especially "against "the UK.

I must admit that the phrase "sick of the experts" comes to mind over and over again. In this case the "experts" were people singing from a hymn sheet not producing real, viable, solid data backing up their projections.

Today it's a very different situation. Where the "experts" are demeaned, month on month. Not because they aren't capable of producing excellent analyses, but because they chose not to. These "so called experts", to paraphrase Trump yet again, chose an unrealistic scenario and then tried to use their power and standing to frighten people into doing what they wanted.

It's interesting that the Guardian's experiment with the "Brexit diary" is not very loudly publicised. As the months roll on they are checking with their Brexit diarists. The result do far? 3 Remainers have crossed the floor. One Brexiter has moved to undecided.

Today, it would appear, that if you are trying to follow a sensitive political situation, then you actually need to research every single thing that is being said so that you know, in layman's terms enough to make your own decision.

Otherwise, as Trump says, you will be presented with "Alternative Truth".

There are so many agendas within news services that it is now hard to pick out real news.

Today the BBC has run its lead story on chaos in our prisons, but it is little more than an advert for the BBC's Panorama programme.

Sky, on the other hand, informs us that Sam Cam (Ex PM's wife) is to launch her own fashion label.

And we are, of course, strongly advised to follow their *star* journalists on Instatwitbooktube so that we do not miss anything important like a BAFTA winner or a lost wedding dress.

Good point. The BBC news is becoming more about creating their own news, running their own campaigns. The crisis in the NHS being one.
Undercover reporters were used to generate the violence in prison story that led the news last night, and also the story about Tesco overcharging on the same bulletin. Both stories were stories that came from the BBC, not stories they reported on. They are choosing the news, not reporting it.

Its more like a features program than a news program.

I'm also getting a little sick of the Guardian and the BBC putting their slant on stuff.

That whole article in the BBC is about how the UK would be BAD and WRONG if it attempted to talk to states independently of the EU negotiations.

Yeah, right. The rEU27 are not _allowed_ to strike deals with the UK. However the UK is perfectly allowed to strike deals with them if they wish to break the EU rules.

Also another point the article should point out but doesn't. It won't just be the Commission who signs the agreement. It will be the Parliament AND the entire Council of Ministers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the UK going to these countries who have to vote on our deal and saying "you know this is going to be really difficult and if those noddies in Brussels are going to play hard ball, so are we, you'll be standing in the middle and you'll get hurt too".

Another point the Article fails to make is the blathers about how the UK "can't expect a better deal outside the EU". Really? I'd suggest that we can strike a deal for the access we want (restricted), then a deal with the US, Australia and China for access to their markets which would probably be better than the deal the EU has. The net effect being that the UK has a "better deal" outside the EU than in it.

All of these things could and should have been reported by a fair and unbiased media.

The fact that the BBC and the Guardian report none of them, until high profile international businessmen and women make statements to the media which are hard to challenge, just goes to show exactly how badly our own media are doing us down in order to play on their hobby horse.
