The language of the media on politics

French presidential hopeful Emmanuel Macron has accused his far-right rival Marine Le Pen of being brutal and capable of starting a civil war.....

Talking of standards, how about that for an opening on a Sky news report about their face to face TV debate? The reader is now primed on what to think for the rest of the article. Any statement from Macron comes from a presidential hopeful, whereas one from Le Pen comes from a warmonger.

But it is no surprise, we were never going to get: "French presidential hopeful Marine Le Pen has accused the failed Socialist finance minister and rival Emmanuel Macron of being indulgent with Islamic extremism...."

The news is incredibly slanted, it's true.

Macron bailed out of the socialists because it was obvious that they weren't going to win. Something I've never seen mentioned on the TV.

The sewage farm will only happen if France votes Le Pen. If it votes Macron it is onwards and upwards to Shangi La, Utopia and Nirvana rolled into one.

Yes I know it's a real disaster isn't it. Thinking for yourself. I couldn't stop doing it in the Army and they really hated that...

A friend here in France (French), very prominent in the community, committees etc, ex Schoolteacher, was asked by Mrs S, today, "how do you think the election will go".

The answer was interesting. "I have no idea, it's very open."

In short the winner will be the one they dislike least. Hardly a sterling recommendation...

How long can they keep this going though? If Macron gets rid of lots of public sector jobs and reduces pensions, there will be five years of pain ahead for France. How is that going to be spun as "success", I wonder?

Cromwell, I was being sarcastic and paraphrasing what the French media is telling the people.

I would not be surprised if five years of Macron's policies leads to the collapse of the centre and a return to hard core left and right politics.
