Our new pc

Postby Diflower » 14 May 2017, 15:31

Finally, 24 hours after Bb first brought it home, our shiny new pc is now up and working
Good job neither of us gets stressed, first the monitor wouldn't come on.
Back to pc man.
Monitor has decided to go kaput between unpluging from old pc and plugging into new one.
Solution - new secondhand monitor. More money.

Next, plug in new monitor; we have a screen display :)
We don't have a wifi connection
Try all sorts...it doesn't seem to be recognising our wireless network adaptor.
Phone pc man.
If we move pc into the hall, where the main phone line and router are, then plug in via ethernet cable, pc man can remotely install new driver.
Move pc. Plug in ethernet. Phone pc man back.
I watch...adaptor has model no. but not version no.
Both suspect this might mean it's version 1 but try all available drivers anyway.
'cannot install driver to this device'...
Solution - take pc back to pc man for him to install new adaptor.
Back to pc man.
Solution - new adaptor. More money.

When we were about to order the new pc we said, oh well, we only need the tower bit, everything else is fine

Don and I have laptops and Conor does everything on his phone. Banking, music, messaging. And occasionally for talking.

What a palaver Di!

I don't use my laptop often now, mainly this kindle, but every now and then I get the laptop out so I won't forget how to type

A sledge hammer could be quite useful in taming these electronic gadgets.
I often wish I had one.

We both like having the desktop, and they're more reliable than laptops.
I use the kindle a lot, but banking, photo transfers and storage, music to make playlists, all sorts, still get done on the desktop.

I like a desktop too Di :D Banking and photo's always get done on it, particularly like having a big screen, much easier than on my laptop or tablet.

Amazing what we all get used to. :D

When Don bought me a laptop I looked at the size of it and thought I'd never get used to the 'smallness'.

I do all my work, banking, photos, etc on it and love it. :Hi:

That's so true Ally! I thought I'd never get used to tapping out posts instead of typing, but I have

We've got a desktop, a back-up laptop, ..... and an ancient tower dating from last century which operates Windows ME, is totally stand-alone, certainly not internet-connected, and used purely by the Ostrich for old-fashioned games that need something pre-Windows 7 to run!

Having had such huge problems last year with malware on both the first two machines, I'm finding I'm reverting to using the internet less and less these days ....... :)
