When I was a very little boy, one day, when we had visitors and I had finished eating my meal,
I said to my mother. "Please can I leave the table?" Someone corrected me and said I should
say, "Please may" So I said, "Please may, can I leave the table". Everyone laughed, for
I didn't know that my Mother's second name was May.

We had a Nora in our class at secondary school. I have never met another Nora in my whole life.

OK, there was Nora Batty in Last of the Summer Wine, but she was not the Nora I knew.

Aggers!

I worked with a Nora in the accountancy office I was at in Bridport 20 years ago. She was a very good book-keeper.
IIRC, she left and moved with her hubby up to London; they opened a fish 'n chip shop somewhere near Heathrow ....

On the subject of names going out of favour:
I have an old school pal named Peter; like me, he's a football fanatic. Our other school friend is Brian.

Last season, Peter started an informal competition; he said he'd go through the first 20 soccer programmes he bought that year, count the number of Peters and Brians in the home and away team squads, and see who "scored" the most :D .
Apparently, it was a 0-0 draw .....
