An Austrian dinner

Postby JanB » 07 Jun 2017, 20:37

Was on the menu tonight :D

Antonia has a friend staying for a while, so they insisted we had a proper Austrian meal.

Meatloaf

With puree potatoes / not mash. These took about 5 minutes, about half a pound of butter, shed load of milk and a mixer.

But very nice / and we-ve been invited back next week, for something else :D :D

You absolutely must request Wiener Schnitzel with warm potato salad and butter fried baby mushrooms.

It is traditional and ever so yummy. :D :D :D

An absolute classic if it's the genuine article, i.e. not a bastardised British fabrication. The cut of the meat is cruicial, isn't it?

Give me English food any day.

I like to know what I'm eating, and I think that some foreign foods have spices, etc., in them
to mask otherwise unpleasant or unpalatable tastes.

I know! - I'm old fashioned.

Then you would probably like a Wiener Schnitzel.

It is a simple breaded veal cutlet, (see Ossie's question) though pork is often used in country pubs. The potato salad is sliced boiled potatoes and lightly fried onions with a splash of beef stock to coat them, and the baby mushrooms are... baby mushrooms.

Not all forrin' foods are herby and spicy concoctions. ;)

That does sound good.
Not quite Austrian but we used to have a German takeaway in Hednesford in the late 80s. It was excellent! I still miss it now
