I said on the daily thread that I'd post about the latest developments with Joe and the hospital.

We finally saw his usual paediatrics consultant last October. The condition he has means that he's prone to gallstones and although they haven't caused him a problem, scans over the last few years had shown them increasing in size and number. We asked if he could have surgery. The consultant agreed that it was time so referred us to a colleague of his. We didn't get to see her until April, so six months after the referral was made.
She immediately said that she wanted him to have his gallbladder removed, and soon before it starts causing problems, and the possibility of him having his spleen removed too. The timescale for when he'd have surgery was within four months, she said. She would refer him to a surgeon. That all seemed perfect as he finished college early June and had the Summer to get it done and recover before starting his second year. She actually asked for details of exam dates etc and noted them down so nothing clashed.
A couple of weeks later she sent copies of letters to us, there was a copy of the referral to the surgeon, one for his GP and one explaining all to Joe. All were dated April 7th, the day after his appointment with her.

Well, we've waited for an appointment to see the surgeon and nothing has come. Last week I called the consultant's secretary who said it was out of their hands but passed me over to the surgeon's secretary. She then told me that Joe's on a waiting list to see him and at the moment it's looking like his appointment is likely to be mid to late August unless any urgent referrals come through and then he'll be pushed down the list. Of course, that's just an appointment to talk things over. He may need further ultrasounds and then surgery would need to scheduling.

I spoke again to the consultant's secretary and she was going to arrange for an expedited referral letter to be sent to see if he can be seen sooner. Not heard anything yet though.

On the flip side, our GP surgery have been excellent. He was complaining of blocked ears last week so I called for an appointment. I was told a nurse would call me back, and she did within a minute or two. She booked him in at the surgery around the corner for later that morning. He was seen on time, prescribed ear drops and told to come back this week for them to be syringed.
His appointment for this was at 12.40 yesterday. He left the house at 12.37 (I remember because I was telling him to hurry else he'd be late) and he was back home with crystal clear hearing at 12.49.

It's not, and it's annoying because we've made no plans for the Summer based on all of this. We were trying to plan a holiday, we were thinking of Berlin, for this month but obviously didn't (and John struggles with getting time off in July/August so we can't really do anything last minute now) and we can't really make plans to go later in the year either as we have no idea when this will happen.

Could I have new feet please  Three days dancing, and this afternoon in particular we were rarely off the floor, we had great fun. I've given the feet a good soak in cold water and rubbed on some lovely tea tree balm - somehow I think we will be having an early night!
