Woes

Do not come alone.

The bank balance is still shrinking due to the job situation and Mrs S' car decided, last week, to emit the most horrible clanking noises when slowing down on the main road. Car into garage and they sent for me to listen to the bottom of the engine. Yep, banging away as it should not.

I'm at home; I have all my toolkits and have the skills to do the job. However it just fills me with dismay to have to do it. Honestly, apart from the bike, I don’t like working on our vehicles any more.

So, after the garage told me it would take “lots of time” to change the big end bearings, I ordered a new set from ebay and they arrived yesterday. I got the car back from the garage on Monday and I will start taking the bottom off it tomorrow evening.

Cost of parts? €105. Cost of the manual? €13.50. The remainder is to be seen as it will probably be measured in my skin.

This isn’t the first time I’ve replaced my big end bearings on my car engine, it will be the fourth, all successful, I’m just not anticipating crawling under the car for up to 10 hours getting it done.

If I was working, of course, I would either pay the €800 - €1000 to get the job done or scrap the car and buy another one.

To add to that my car still has a high pressure fuel pump fault which makes it a pig to drive unless you know what you are doing. Mrs S is using my car for now.

I’m sure that life will look better on Monday. I’m waiting for an internal job search to expire on the IOM before I can be considered for a job there and I’m waiting for Accenture in France to take the time to look at my CV. Other than that, who knows? They talk about skills shortage, in my business they are now talking about you having just walked out of doing exactly the same job for the last 5 years. Not very likely…

A more positive viewpoint next week.

Life sometimes really does throw it at you

Good luck with the car fixing - you know you'll be pleased once it's done and you've saved yourself a whopping amount of money. but most importantly, best of luck on the job hunting front; hope the perfect job comes along soon

Thanks Ria.
