Good morning, all.
Sorry to read about your return journey from Old Trafford, Jo. One always likes to hope those sort of incidents are a thing of the past, but human (tribal) nature is what it is. I don't often mix with Premiership supporters on trains but I remember the last time I did, it was returning from Leicester to Birmingham (I'd been to Wellingboro, the Leicester fans had just seen their side win the first home game of the season in what was to become their title-winning year). One Leicester yoof was giving the mobile ticket collector a bit of lip (he'd obviously vaulted the barriers at Leicester station and hadn't got a ticket). The other Leicester fans looked on in stoical silence, then some exasperation as the argument continued, and it was only resolved when one of the beefier Foxes' contingent offered the guard to give the yoof a good slappin' on his behalf.
The kid paid up.
On a sourer note, the only time I've been to Old Trafford was back in the '70's and the opposition were West Ham. I recall the Manchester "fans" gathering at Piccadilly station and physically spitting at the West Ham players, including Bobby Moore. That was how it was back then. Not nice.
SSE are outside the house as we speak, fitting the new LED street lighting. Looks like they are using existing poles and circuits, so nothing like the three-ring circus we had in Birmingham when they put the new system up alongside the old system, and you couldn't move for trenches.
Have a nice day folks!
