Old pound coins

Postby Osc » 11 Dec 2017, 14:33

Just been checking my bits and pieces of sterling - I have a couple of old pound coins plus a few newer, shiny ones. Will anyone take the old ones, or should I just not bring them with me?

No shop will take them so you can't buy anything with them; but some banks may still exchange them for new ones - but it's not guaranteed and it's up to the different banks on what their policy is. I gather if you have an account with a bank you can deposit them into your account?

Osc,
If you are flying from or to Manchester airport and want to use one of the trolleys, you have to insert a pound coin to get one. This is not refundable. So use one of the old coins.

There are still a few out there in circulation, and you can still get them in your change unless you keep a sharp look-out. Got one myself recently - like Saundra, I just put in the next charity collection tin I passed ....

However, a lady in the bank in front of me last Monday managed to exchange a couple of old ones over the counter, no questions asked, but it looked like she was a "known" regular.

we are still taking them here Osc but not in all shops but the banks here have a deal with UK to exchange them as they are paid into the banks they send them accross.

Our £1 coins are still the same size and shape as the old UK ones but with different faces so it will be a while here before all the old in saving bottles and piggy banks are all recovered I emptied my bottles in August but while doing the car boot sales since we still get a few old english in the donations tin or even off customers for now we are not worried but as soon as the UK sets a date for us I will be more particular.

The UK is accepting from the IOL any that turn out to be forged I believe for now which is good when it is believed up to 1 in 200 before was forged.

so anyone out there stuck with a wheelbarrow full just frop me a line hehehe
