Rather worried!

My Chris just rang, his leg swelled up and he's been diagnosed with a blood clot They have sent him home with the stuff to give himself daily injections. He's never liked needles Mick offered to go and get him (his leg is too painful to drive) but he wants to stay home, doesn't want a fuss.

They wouldn't have sent him home if they thought he was in danger, would they?

Kaz, when i was hospitalised the other year, when my motorbike injuries became infected, my leg and arm swelled up massively.

The first thing they did was send me for an ultra-sound scan to make sure there was no DVT going on. Has Chris had similar?

Ho goodness kaz I wouldn't have a clue about blood clots only that you have to rest your leg but giving yourself injections well I'm amazed has he got some one who can do the injection for him what a worry typical fella doesn't want anyways at least if he came to you D could inject for him might be best if you fetch him home to you I think

Oh Kaz I won't say don't worry, cos you will, but I'd imagine they'd have kept him in if there was cause to be concerned xx

Yes, he's had all that Frank, it's definitely a clot!

Saundra, to my mind it would be better as well, but he wants to stay at home! He's 39 years old and I can't make him come He'll cope, but I've insisted that I'll call him twice a day, to make sure he's ok.

I've known a few people with them, and had to do the daily injections.
So long as he can manage to do that he should be fine, but if he really can't I'd get him to phone his gp surgery to see if a nurse could do it.
Does he have any other advice, to keep the leg raised, rested, active, whatever?

I'm puzzled, Kaz.

I have had DVT(Deep Vein Thrombosis) twice, some years ago,
which was caused by blood clotting in one leg. On each occasion
I was hospitalised for several days, and I am now permanently
on Warfarin to keep my blood thin. Perhaps the methods used
now have changed, but I am surprised at the self-injecting you
mention.

How can a hospital expect you to just go home and give yourself injections
I'm a diabetic and even the finger prick hurts at times think that's a step to far to be honest

Thanks Di, I think he will cope, but if not I think they will send out a district nurse, according to D anyway. Mind you it's been a long while since she was one! He has to keep moving, and not sit in one position for too long.

Jo, I know! The thought that he might not have got it checked out until something awful happened will keep me awake tonight, I think
