Finally!

Postby JoM » 30 Jan 2018, 13:28

Joe has a part time job! After putting in countless applications and leaving his CV with various companies on the off chance but rarely even getting a thanks but no thanks.

He had an interview at McDonald's over the weekend and had a call back earlier to say that he's got the job and has to go for an induction tomorrow afternoon. It's not at the one that Tom works at, but at a bigger one on the outskirts of town. He's working a probationary period at first, not sure if he'll like it (and stick at it!) but it's a job and he needs money!

Re Tom working for McD's - they've now given him private healthcare

Well done Joe! It is a real thrill to start earning your own money for the first time.

Thanks all!

Kaz, he's still doing the same as when he started and works around 15 hours per week when he's at uni but he's been there for three years now so this is a company benefit that kicks in when they've been employed for that long.
He's planning on working there full time for a year once he's finished his course in June so that he can get some money to do a bit of travelling. He feels like he needs a break from education for a bit.
For Tom it's been an excellent job as he can state which hours and days he can work, increase them during holidays or decrease them if he's got a lot of uni work to get done and the pay is pretty decent.

I hope Joe likes his new job.
I can remember how pleased I was at getting a job when I left school at 14.
It was in the Design Room at a carpet manufacturing firm. The pay was 10 shillings a week,
8s-6d after stoppages. I gave my mother 7 shillings and kept 1/6 for pocket money.
Those were the days !
