T' 840 Coasliner will soon be departin' fr stand 23 on Britain's most scenic route.

It is official. The route from Leeds to Whiby has been voted Britain's most scenic.

It is no surprise really. Once it leaves the urban sprawl of Leeds it goes though Tadcaster (Taddy), York, Malton, Pickering and Goathland, wonderful olde worlde places and in the North Yorks Moors some of the finest ountryside found anywhere. Then it gets to the lovely harbour of Whiby.

All for nowt on thy OAP bus pass or about £9 for a day return fer t' ordinary folk.

The N Yorks moors are stunning!

We went on a railway trip across the moors once, but we didn't think much of it, as
there were too many trees alongside the track that we didn't get many decent views.

Did the route from Malton to Whitby on the doubledecker -countryside & villages were stunning -at one point that was very steep we were not to sure the bus was going to make it !!

I lived in York for several years, and we always went by car to Whitby, although I did take the train from Pickering a few times when visitors came up to stay

I will never forget my first glimpse of the Fylingdales "Golf Balls" early warning system - like something out of a science fiction film

I remember from the 1950's that one of the highlights of our annual summer holiday in Rhyl was the open top bus ride all along the North Wales coast to Llandudno.

Different era nowadays, I'm afraid. Rhyl in particular is but a pale shadow of its former self, no longer a top holiday resort.

Now I have to admit I am disappointed that this is the most scenic.

I watched, in real time a couple of years ago, a two hour ride on a service bus from Richmond In North Yorks to Hawes, over hills and fells in the Pennines, passing the Ribblehead Viaduct, and the Buttertubs. Beautiful route, I was minded to go book a ticket just to relive it!
