I did my formative driving in Germany and a few things have stuck.

* The two second rule - Dusseldorf nach Dortmund, Dusseldorf nach Dortmund...
* Indicate every change of direction well before you do it, and when there is a junction on a bend
* Use 2nd or 3rd to pull away in snow/ice
* Flash your lights to tell an artic or long vehicle it is safe to pull in
* Put 4 way flashers on when having to slow down or stop for an unexpected reason i.e. motorway crash
* Use handbrake and neutral at traffic lights instead of sitting on the brakes with the car in gear and the clutch down

Ever so sensible those Germans. ;)

Yes to all those :)

I don't do that - depending on the situation I will have the car in neutral but very rarely the handbrake on.

You'd all have fun driving over here, 80kph on tiny country roads, which means the locals bomb along and it can be very scary driving carefully along some narrow country road when a local in a 4x4 comes barrelling towards you, with hardly any room to pass   I am pretty good at keeping to the speed limit but is amazing how your speed can creep up without you noticing. We have an outer ring, the M50, rather like your M25, and sometimes I feel that I am the only one even attempting to keep to the limit

I got done for speeding many years ago when I had a motor bike.
Also got done with a speed camera in a car hidden behind a hedge. This was soon after 6.00 a.m in the morning on a clear road with a 30 mph limit with no other traffic. I was on my way to work.
I have since passed the IAM test and since retiring had a test on my driving skills by a local council for free. This was very good as the examiner was very strict. At a meting at a later date with other people, some had very bad habits.
Have got dash cameras both front and back which also records my speed. Could be useful if stopped for speeding.
AS has been said, it is very difficult to watch the traffic and maintain the speed limit which can easily change without being noticed.
