The wasps have decided they prefer the swimming pool water to the bowl of normal water I put out

We're not doing too bad for butterflies.

We're not seeing the "aristocrats" like the Red Admirals, Purple Emperors and Tortoiseshells (just one sighting of a Comma), but we are seeing plenty of Whites (both small and large), Fritillaries, and our most abundant butterfly seems to be the Meadow Brown (the commonest of the browns).

Loads of blue damselflies (or are they dragonflies?) on the river.

And plenty of dopey flies droning around inside the house …….

The only butterflies we have seen lately are Cabbage Whites. Plenty of bees though.

An even hotter day is forecast for tomorrow.

I've just about had enough now.

I actually put the water out for Molly and any birds around. But the wasps like it too, but also the pool water

I was only thinking just while out with Billy that I haven't seen many butterflies. There're usually loads on the common.

I've put the bowls of water up on top of the wall. Billy's obviously got his own bowl in the kitchen but he'd happily drink any that I'd put outside so it's out of his reach.

Aggers, it wears you down doesn't it :?

It is so hot here even this late. The temperature in the car was 40 plus today.
The downside of living in the country and brewery town is the smells.
The brewery wafts out the smell of barley and it is really overpowering.
We are surrounded by farms and fields and the farmers are now spraying fertiliser (which is mainly sewage)
all day long so we have to close the windows as it is so strong and smelly.
My hay fever is worse at the moment so I am praying for cooler weather.
We lived through 1976 running a very busy pub with a huge beer garden so no doubt we will survive this.

We have ordered a bird bath so the birds can freshen up a bit in the heat.

On the one hand the lawn is a poor sight, on the other the corn has already been harvested in some fields and I saw some ripe blackberries the other day and it's not even August.

Thunderstorms tomorrow?
