We flew to Düsseldorf then took trains or buses to wherever took our fancy - Koblenz, Remich, Spa, Liege, Eindhoven.... We were quite mad!

Your right when we where stationed in Germany we used to go all over on the train. And when our boys where little they loved trains and free tickets of cereal packets today's parents need cars and bags of stuff I remember going to join Bill in Germany I didn't bat an eye lid Lincoln London gatwick wildenwrath and he was late to meet me

Saundra, RAF Wildenrath was a fantastic place for ever so many journeys. Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France were all good for an away day, as was a large part of Germany itself. I loved it there.

Bring back RAf Laarbruck Frank those where the days nip over the border at a weekend to venlo or Indhoven.

Oh yes, Saundra. Laarbruch was my favourite posting in all my time in the RAF. It actually was a beautiful airfield with one of the longest runways in Europe.

We had numbers 2, 15, 16 and 25 squadons when I was there - I was with 16 Sqn.

It is now a civil airport: Laarbruch Weeze.

I was in singlie's block seven. If you followed the road down to the end you came to the back gate. Just before it there was a mark on the road Germany | Netherlands. The camp gate was actually in the Netherlands. The road lead to Hees and a restaurant / pub called De Wellsche Hut. I spent most of my spare time in "het Nederlands".

My girlfriend, Hanniweg, was from Nieuw-Bergen. She is the one who taught me how to make curry gewurze and Dutch mayo (frites saus) and made me stop calling the place Holland! Happy days.

My brother in his wife, both mid 70s, have travelled to Aus many many times as their daughter lives in WA, and they go out to visit every year. The fly Emirates every time, flying from Newcastle to Dubai with a night stopover, and then on to Perth. They have clocked up so many airmiles that they got one trip completely free
