We had one at our previous house, but didn't think much of it.

I think these meters give more benefits to the supply company than to the customer.

We are at present, on a type of payment system that gives reduced prices for off-peak electricity and which, I understand,, cannot operate with a smart meter..

Loke JoM, we had a letter from nPower to say they were coming to fit a Smart meter.
Did nothing as we were changing to a different supplier for both gas and electricity. Also we would have been on holiday when they said they were coming.
Will not have one fitted.
I know how much energy I use. Alleged savings of about £20 per year. How do they calculate this?

I have also had notice that npower would fit one for me, I rang them to decline it. I'm sure it was last year sometime....they said they wouldn't offer it again and I said "Good!"

I have no desire to have one - I know I'd end up like bloomin Scrooge when I saw the numbers tick up - and up!!

I think I'm going to have to start channelling my inner Scrooge. I swear our lads think that electricity is free. I came back this morning from walking Bill and their bathroom light was on. That would've been Tom getting ready for work. The kitchen lights get left on all night if we're in bed before them. They'll leave TVs on in empty rooms. Tom will turn on the light in his room during the day rather than walk to the window and open the blind.

Inner Scrooge    I know the feeling.

The central heating thermostat and controls are a constant battle. Mrs O puts the thermostat up, I lurk in the hallway and turn it down when she's not looking. She then turns it back up when I'm not looking ….. :cute:
