And the advocate general of the CJEU has given an opinion that the UK should be able to unilaterally revoke A50.

I wonder if that top judge realises what he has done? The EU commission and council are full of people like Blair and when the courts defied Blair he forced through laws which bound their hands.

I am interested though, because the advocate general has, essentially, decided that a point of law takes precedent over EU stability.

The CJEU has given an opinion 'on a point of law' as I always said it would. That is what it is there for.

Listening to Lord Kerr on Sky, the man who wrote the damned thing, and he said that it gave parliament another option to May's deal or no deal. His 'opinion' is that it allows the UK to 'pause' a process in stasis and for us all to regroup - something else I have said could and should happen.

It sits, uncomfortably, alongside today's debate and vote on whether contempt of parliament took place re the disclosure on the legal advice on Brexit. A 'yes' vote looks likely and would be referred to the (Tory dominated) Privileges Committee. Should it decide to reprimand or suspend ministers it is unlikely for any sanction(s) to be applied before next week's vote on the Brexit deal.

The combination of the two issues certainly gives MPs something else to consider as they debate any deal on offer.

I didn't read the opinion as a pause. I read it as the ability to completely exit the process and return to normal with no consequences apart from ruffled feathers.

The article is quite explicit about more time, which is what a pause really is. More time requires all 27 tagree to it.

As for regrouping, that is not really helpful. All that more time does is allow more sophisticated lies and false statements from all sides. Don't we have enough of those already?

More time would make it virtually impossible for the average person in the street to make any kind of sensible decision.

It is quite simple. JFDI and sort out the consequences as we go.

Second guessing leads to nothing more than status quo. The EU is All about second guessing. The UK on the other hand is normally about moving forward. Although we have been significantly infected with EU ideals on this.

I wish we could have popped a letter of resignation into post and departed after a month's notice :D

That is the route available at present and we could deviate from it. Revoking A50 unilaterally requires nothing from the EU 27 and Kerr was very specific. He also said that revoking A50 before March 29 2019 keeps the status quo - rebate, veto, opt-outs, no Schengen and no €.

He was also very clear that the UK could go again, but this time with a game plan.

When it comes to regrouping, it means just that: to reorganize (as after a setback) for renewed activity. Think about the game plan scenario. It has nothing to do with more lies and spin - that is the fear factor Leavers are feeding themselves. Strange that, because all I read from them is Leave would win again with a super majority. When it comes to lies it has already been done, by both sides, and any side trying again would be jumped on from a great height and from all quarters. The lying game is well and truly up.

As for the average person's ability to make a sensible decision on a subject. I actually have quite a bit of faith in them and I am not for only allowing the top X% of a population to vote, be it in a local or general elections or a referendum. Bob the builder's vote is equal to Prof. Erasmus Walking-Cane's in a democracy.

Cup half full again. You think there will ever be a plan from any of the parties?

Sheer wishful thinking.

This is as good as it gets. If we revoke our A 50 notification now we will never gand it will poison UK politics for 2 generations. People think the EU is taking advantage today. This is NOTHING compared to how it will be with political turmoil in the UK.

Also if Remainders think the Banks are just going to drop their preparations for a move at the 11th hour, think again. If we "take a pause" with intent to do this all over again, all we do is damage our economy without the benefit of Brexit to trade with the rest of the world.

Oh it may look soooo alluring but doing that will be a disaster.

Now who's partaking of project fear and project fantasy?

Not long ago it was the EU punishing us for daring to want to leave because they needed us more than we needed them. We were hurting them and they were going to stick it to us. Now they will punish us for wanting to stay, which is the inverse of leaving, ergo it will help them!

And it is going to take two generations to overcome the damage to our economy! Is that the damage already done by two years of pissing about or some new damage? And is two generations longer or shorter than the 50 years Rees-Mogg said it would take for the economy to benefit from Brexit?

As for the political turmoil. That is happening despite Brexit and not because of it, and many of us put it down to the ineptitude of the Tories - from Cameron to today.

Bucket is half full because A50 can be revoked. It might not be, but it would give us a chance to get out of the current mess. Time for a top-up.

Perhaps you are right. I deserved that.

But, honestly, do you think we are just going to walk away, unscathed, whilst holding the threat of doing it all over again over the heads of the EU?

Even I would not let the UK do that. Given that most of the EU thinks we are a petulant bunch of wannabees, I don't think their reaction will be even that tame.

The Very and I do mean _Very_ least that would happen to us is that we would be bound into the EU budget for the next 7 years, A50 activation again or not. In that case you could forget "pause" and think "End".
