Why does the UK government appoint increasingly useless people to be SoS for NI? Karen Bradley was quite obviously clueless from Day 1. Basically I think it shows how little they care, and it was confirmed by her carry on yesterday. In better times, she would have had to resign but nobody seems to have accountability any more. She, Theresa May and all future appointees should be made to read this. Interestingly, someone on Twitter suggested that her speech might have been written by the DUP as part of some deal to encourage them to continue propping up Theresa May.

Osc, you make it sound as though the UK government has competent individuals in its ranks when there is plenty of evidence that it does not. The list of incompetents is a long one: Bojo; Gove; Davis; McVey; Fox; Hunt; IDS; Grayling, and let us not forget Cameron and May to name just a few. Bradley is in good, or not-so-good, company.

She looks to have been put in place because she had no Irish 'baggage' and was thus seen to be a clean and safe pair of hands. Unfortunately, and by her own admission, she also had no understanding of Irish history or the issues that has created. She is in the unique position of letting down the citizens of the Republic, Northern Ireland and the UK.

She should resign or be sacked, not only because of what she said the other day, but because she is useless.
