Action Packed weekend...

Postby Ally » 11 Mar 2019, 11:52

....got to bed at midnight on Friday night as Conor was staying at ours and we went out for dinner.

Up at 4.30am to get our flight at 7.45.

OMG!!! The flight! It was beautifully clear and smooth all the way to northern Spain, not too bad over France, but the minute we got to UK airspace boy was it windy!

The last 50 minutes of the flight had even the stewards sitting down, no drinks etc were being served. The only people moving around was a steward handing out sick bags to quite a few passengers! Absolutely no one was talking.

There were a couple of people crying. I really enjoy flying but even I was gripping onto my arm rest and Conor was doing some heavy breathing. :o

The last 10 minutes were unbelievable. I was sitting window seat by the wing and I was mesmerised as to how the flippin thing was staying on.

It felt as if we were a little boat being buffeted in a big sea.....the pilot got a massive round of applause when we did eventually land. I really thought we were going to have a repeat of a few years ago when the landing was aborted but no, we made it down.

Jackie picked us up and took us home for a very welcoming mug of coffee.

We went shopping then got a taxi to Moseley to meet up with a load of friends. Really lovely evening was had.

Next morning we got a taxi at 10am to take us to The Roost pub. It's only a 10 minute walk from the Blues ground and it was absolutely heaving with a great atmosphere. Ed and his mate Matt met us there. :D

And lo and behold! Who was there but my second favourite Brummie Glynn Purnell. Don called him over and Glynn just couldn't have been nicer. We chatted for a good five minutes, I had a photo taken with him and he kissed my cheek. I was over the moon at how lovely he was. :D :D

I won't go on about the game.....but it was full on electric atmosphere!

After that we walked to Digbeth to the White Swan to meet another group of chums and have a bite to eat with them.

We then got a taxi back around 7ish to meet Jackie in her local pub where we had a couple of drinks then fish and chips. :D

Up at 3.45 this morning and Jackie dropped us for our 6.10am flight. It was very windy, the wings had to be de-iced but after about 20 mins flying it levellled out and was smooth as you like all the way home.

Landed at 9.45 and walked off the plane to very welcome heat.

2 loads of washing now done and pegged out, I'm showered and will pootle till work at 6pm.

The 3 of us have agreed we'll do it again next year.

Crumbs, I am SO SO glad I was not on that flight - I think I'd have died 1000 deaths and then some more.

Glad you had an amazing time though - it sounds like a perfect, albeit busy and exhausting, weekend from start to finish! x

Hate windy weather when flying - and bods being sick doesn't help.

Not jealous that you met Glyn Purnell   not much  He's on James Martin on Saturday. Don't normally watch it, but will this time.

Oh gawd, I hope it's a bit smoother by Thursday morning, when we fly out of Birmingham. I hate turbulence :(

I'm glad your weekend was so much fun Ally :D xxxx

Al, I've been on a flight like that, from New York to Heathrow a few years ago. I'm usually okay with turbulence as the crew carry on serving as normal but like on your flight everything stopped and they were told to sit and get belted in like the rest of us, even the entertainment system went off so there wasn't that to act as a distraction. The only noises in the cabin were people gasping in shock as we lurched around and some crying.

Chuffed to bits about you seeing Glyn Purnell :D
