So we're back from a lovely weekend at the caravan. Was a bit grey Saturday but glorious yesterday! Even got a bit of a suntan! But today....tbh the best bit is to forget about it.....but I WILL say why, give you all a giggle at least.
We had a lie-in and then started to gather things together to bring home. Packed, the weekend case and the cold box, there were a few bits for the carrier (remaining bread and wine for example) and I stripped the bed to take home the sheets to wash as D and J were swapping over with us (as we left, they were heading up for the kids holidays) We had their keys as well as our own (long story) so we left them under the pot and off we set. Coming back took a little longer than going up as it was later therefore heavier traffic (we tend to leave around 9am on the day we go, this was 11) And we pulled on to our drive around 12.30. Then he couldn't get into the house.
"Have you got the keys" he says
"no, you locked up" says I, struggling to keep cat from jumping out of the car.
What followed was a mad throwing of things out of the car, cases, bags, youname it, we couldn't find it, he even looked in the case for his jeans in case he'd left it there. No.
Jen has a spare! I'll phone her....goes to voicemail....oh she'll be at work - no matter she'll finish at 2.30, she'll pop over with it...only 90 minutes to kill. Need a wee.....oh here is my spare car key. Tom doesn't do waiting....I'll go back for it he says. What, all the way back to Alnmouth??? Yeah...checks with D that it's there....yep she says, on our caravan keys - under the pot!!! Oh, he says, then you missed that the key wasn't with me as well (I'd put the keys under the pot before we got in the car ) So he gets back in his car and heads back to Alnmouth, a round trip of about 3 hours or so.....
Meanwhile here's me with a hungry cat who wants fed (luckily he had some food left from breakfast) so I gave him that, stuck him in the (empty!) dog kennel/pen while I went in search of a toilet. Drove my car down to the services, abt a mile away, thought about getting a coffee, no, Charlie might escape the pen. Got back, stuck him in the car with me and read my kindle. Oh, phones had both died but the kennel has a power point so for a while I was stood in the kennel while it charged, in case Jen rang.
When she hadn't phoned by 2.45 I decided to go to Sainsburys and have a coffee there 3 miles or so away. Cat back in pen, drove off to S'burys, on the way Jen rang - hurray!!! Yes she was at work, had just finished and yes she would nip across to let me in!!
Meanwhile Tom's just heading back having picked up the key from D's set (why it was on hers I'll never know??) and he finally got home just after 4.30.
The irony of it is - I'm having a new door fitted tomorrow and the keys will no longer work anyway!!!!
Oh and it's raining …..now, though luckily it was dry when I was hanging around outside the house
