I'm wondering is the reason that Rob and Ruth don't fly anywhere on holiday is because Ruth's sister in an air traffic controller? Perhaps they know more than we do, insider knowledge and all that?

Bonkers weather

40C yesterday and thunderstorms and cold today We've not had rain yet, but it's about 5kms away, the other side of the IC1 and just down the road.

I have always loved flying, Jo, but a few incidents made me think.

I was on a recorded near-miss flight over Paris CDG when an Air France jumbo about to take off took our landing slot - that was an ATC error.

Another was coming back from San Francisco when the plane hit a low pressure air pocket as we passed the Sierra Nevada mountains. We dropped 11,000 feet in just a few minutes - weather

And then there was the Indian turbulence just over the Hindu Kush during the monsoon season - more weather.

I still fly though.

Worst turbulence I’ve had was off the US East Coast, it doesn’t usually bother me as everything carries on as normal but on that occasion everything stopped. The entertainment system went off, the meal service was suspended and the crew were belted into their seats.

I know Ruth has mentioned in the past that her sister, Rachel, had called her after bad shifts and moaned about arrogant pilots not following instructions. She’s worked for ATC for over 25 years so I expect she’s got some stories to tell!
