The decorations are up.

Postby Workingman » 01 Dec 2019, 17:21

Well, I say "decorations". What I mean is that wobbly Santa and his Snowman friend are on the hearth. One set of multi-coloured, multi-function lights are round the window and another set are on the chimney breast in the outline shape of a tree. The silver white set are round the mirror in the hallway and the coloured ones are wound round the curtain pole between the lounge and my little office. The spikey twig / tree thing with snow and lights is on the bookcase.

All done and dusted in about a wasted hour I'll never get back.

Merry \)$%&^*£ Christmas and Peace at Last!

Thank God for blue tack, drawing pins and Selotape.

Here, we have a partial solution.

The Xmas Box and black rubbish sack containing the Artificial Tree have been retrieved from the depths of the garage and relocated to the front room. :) Well, it's a start!

I'm also currently contemplating the Christmas Card List ......

Ours will go up on Thursday, it is a tradition now that Michael and Kellie do it with us on the first Thursday of the month. I have already considered the card list, trimmed it down a bit, bought cards and stamps.

How things change !

When I was a lad, we always used to put up the Christmas decorations and the Christmas Tree on Christmas Eve.

When I was young the Advent calendars and a few decorations would go up on Dec 1st. Then more as the cards rolled in. The weekend before Christmas the tree would go up then on Christmas eve we would pin up our stockings / pillow cases.

The whole lot was down and packed away come Jan the 6th.

When duvets started to appear in the mid '60s my very optimistic cousin, Denise aged eight or nine, with admirable hope pinned a duvet cover up for her presents. She had to crawl inside to find them.

That made me giggle :D

Growing up we'd have an advent wreath as of 1st Advent Sunday. 6th December is St Nicholas and we'd get a chocolate Santa, an orange and a small gift. The tree would go up the morning of Christmas Eve. And everything taken down come Epiphany (6th January).

Now I have a few decorations out the beginning of December, and the tree goes up 3rd Advent Sunday.... I still do stick to taking everything down on the 6th Jan.
