As a complete aside, when a Portuguese national is killed or injured abroad - it is on the national news.

There are a lot of Portuguese in South Africa and a good friend of ours was killed in a restaurant, years ago. We only found out, because it was on the news stations.

We know! There is even a Consulate in Leeds, and also biltong suppliers and Saffa restaurants - a thriving community.

As an aside, some friends from South Yorkshire visited some of their friends, who had some friends over from South Africa (all very friendly).
As it was a lovely summer day they suggested a walk to the local pub, about a quarter of a mile off.
The South Africans' question was "Is that safe?".
A reminder maybe that us Brits moan too much about crime. We take it for granted that we live (mostly) in a safe country.
