I do love this thread; so yes - fab idea Jo and glad it took off like it did

Saundra; I would definitely complain (very loudly). No excuse for them to not have called you - that really is very bad of them.
That is a long time Osc - I know with the family members in Germany that passed recently it was a week between passing and funeral; just goes on too long for the families otherwise :(

My Dad's cousin's son died on the Sunday before Christmas (the 22nd I think?) and his funeral is next Friday, the 17th. You can't even blame the weather or Christmas delay because it's like that all year round.

One of the causes around here is because we've run out of burial space so unless a plot has already been reserved or there's a family one to use it's cremation only and the crematorium is overwhelmed.

Firstly, well done Jo on making the 10,000th reply on the thread - very fitting as you started it in the first place! :Hi:

As to funerals, I've read the small print and you have to have a been a resident in this here frontier town for five years before you qualify for a burial plot. I know that the local cemetery is very nearly full and there are plans afoot to develop a new one down by the sewage works (yes, really :? ). Crematoriums are at least 25 miles distant, I think the crem and woodland burial site at Lytchett Minster just outside Poole is probably the nearest.

They don't normally do crems here. it is burial either the same day or the next. The casket can be viewed  as it's normally open  and then everyone trails after the hearse, down to the cemetery then burial.

There are, I think, two crematoriums in the lower half of Portugal, one in Ferriero de Alentejo and I think the other is Lisbon.

It is the same round here, as at Jo's - lack of burial space.

I took out a payment plan a few years ago and burial wasn't even offered. The FD, Co-op, didn't seem to think that it was a reality as all the local graveyards are almost at capacity, so I will have a nice warm send off.

It could be good prep for where I am heading. ;) :P

Don't get too excited - there's a penumbral lunar eclipse going on as we speak  (well, in the UK, anyway).

Just been outside and the moon looks just like it always does, so unsure what the fuss is all about …

Up here we've got a penumbral cloud eclipse. It's where the Earth, Moon and clouds are in perfect alignment. It is pretty regular round these parts.

We also have very rare astronomical occurrences where the Sun comes out. We put our caps on and roll our sleeves down to protect ourselves from its searing heat. Temperatures sometimes get into double figures Celsius, it can be Hell on Earth at times.
