So does that mean you retain the dual citizenship, Ria, post-Brexit? Sorry to be so thick :oops:

My cousin Zoe had dual citizenship growing up, but when she married her first husband, who was not an EU citizen, she had to have full German citizenship for him to obtain his status through marriage! Crikey, this stuff can get complicated :D

Yes it does. Germany only allows dual nationality provided the 2nd nationality is an EU one. So, once Brexit is a done deal and the transition phase (end this year I think it is) is over; any Germany wishing to apply for dual citizenship will need to apply for a - now here's a good German word - Beibehaltungsgenehmigung. It's a certificate issued by the German Federal Government and allows a German citizen to acquire the citizenship of a specific foreign country without losing their German citizenship - but you have to pay for it and it's not always granted.
