My poor sister!

She's always been a bit prone to chest infections, and her recent cold has settled on her chest, as usual. I've just had these WhatsApp messages from her, about the hoops she's had to jump through, to see a doctor. This is C&P'd from WhatsApp

Just back from doc. Greeted with doc in full hazmat suit hilarious. Got steroids tablets and inhaler plus antibiotics and one week cert. Had real trouble getting this far as surgery insisted I ring 111 first

111 nightmare first operator couldn't speak good English kept repeating back to me what I hadn't just said. Weird was like he was on two different calls at the same time.told me to hang up and redial pretending I'd travelled from an affected area so I could be assessed. So third with g queue of the day. That operator wasn't I terrsted as I hadn't travelled from an affected area. You couldn't make it up
Can tell I'm still peeved by all the spelling mistakes! !!!!

Don't see why I needed to jump through all those hoops. Anyway they isolated at the surgery but just went to chemist like a normal human being. Now is not the time to get a normal chest infection. .Exhausted by it all

I do understand the need to be cautious, but this corona virus has seriously been blown out of all proportion.

Esp as in her situation it should be on file that she is prone to the infections so the GP should have been able to do a telephone appointment with pharmacy delivery. What could / should have taken no more than 20 minutes probably took your sister hours!

That is exactly what I was thinking. The doctor has the records, knows the history, can ask the relevant questions and then advise / prescribe. 111 does not have any of that.

During this crisis doctors should be doing many more phone appointments and only call patients in if they think it necessary.

How flippin' stressful for her...and 111 is not the place to have people who don't understand or speak good English!

BTW didn't I read somewhere earlier that we're being told to try to make all contact with GPs electronically where possible at the moment?

What a mess this virus is I lady on phone in on tv this morning was sure she had the virus was told by her gp surgery to ring 111so she did was told by 111because she haven't been abroad she had to do an online test which told her the same she hasn't been a abroad so she didn't have it it will become chaos I fear

Thanks everyone! Yes, very stressful, and not what you need when you feel ill I agree, a phone consultation with her own GP, where they could access her notes, and see that it's rare for her to get through a winter without a CI, or even bronchitis
