Two cases now in the Alentejo, both a long way from us.

Our President has decided on a State of Emergency, but it needs to be voted. We'll learn more at 8.00 tonight.

As just about everything is shut in Ourique, hopefully, we'll not be too bad here.

We're now staying here for at least 2 weeks, but I really feel for our friends, whose son is in hospital, as they can't leave Portugal and get back to England. They've booked a ferry and have contacted the Embassy, so fingers crossed for them.

I am so grateful that I have my four girls, at least I know I'll have fresh eggs and am lucky that I can give my neighbours some as well.

It seems pretty similar to here, Jan, apart from the bit about the police whacking you over the head with a truncheon ….. :D

I suspect we have that to come.

What's happening about your schools?

Shut a couple of weeks ago Ossie.

There is now talk about oldies - over 65, then 70, only being allowed out at certain times, in supermarkets etc. We'll wait and see what else comes out.

Grumpy is 72, I'm 63, he has no idea how to use a card to pay for stuff, has no idea where things are in the supermarket, so it could be a nightmare - or rather funny meals will be in the offing

Kaz I had the supermarket experience for the first time today! Last Thursday was pretty normal....BUT

Went to our local Lidl today, very little bread of any sort, NO eggs or butter, NO pasta at all (in either of the other s/m I went to), NO fresh chicken. three 1liter bottles of fresh milk. Everything else, cleaning products and toilet rolls aside, not too bad, but the sight of the empty shelves at 11am made me very sad.

It's getting worse isn't it?

It is Gal :? xxx

Jan, it sounds like a learning curve for Grumpy ;) I remember when my mum went into hospital for an op, my sister had to put post-it notes on the oven, washing machine, etc with operating instructions

It's been decided that it is impractical for the oldies to have a couple of hours in the supermarkets, so it's as you were. Stay home unless you need to go the supermarket, doctor or chemist. Restaurants can do take-aways, but all shops/bars where there would be people contact are shut.

Just watching the news and all public areas in towns and cities are being scrubbed and disinfected. Bus stops, rubbish bins, pavements, benches etc.
