Semantics, very definitely. The effects and symptoms might be similar - but they are distinctly different diseases.

Covid-19 is Orthocoronavirinae, Influenza is Orthomyxoviridae. They diverge after the Realm phase of the Virus classification (very early). They are NOT the same. Influenza is NOT a coronavirus. We have vaccines for influenza A and B; strains of A cause all flu pandemics. We have none for any coronavirus, not SARS, not MERS not Covid-19.

There is no argument, not one, for saying it is a more nasty version of the flu.

OK, I'll agree with you. They are Not the same single strand RNA virus. They are different single strand RNA viruses. Flu we have a vaccine for. Well for the mutations which are known. The vaccine changes every year as the virus mutates every year. Coronavirus has no vaccine.

In terms of impact they are not the same either. Cornonavirus is far more deadly to older people, are far more contagious and are going to wreak total havoc with our world society. We have become adjusted to Flu, we have not become adjusted to Corona.

In terms of becoming infected, protecting ourselves from the virus (apart from there being a vaccine for flu), the differences are, essentially, nil.

So, to recap, they are NOT the same. But you get it like flu and can avoid it like flu but if you do get it and are over 65 you have a better than 1:10 chance of dying from it. Unlike Flu which is way, way, lower. Most of the symptoms are like flu except that there are some very specific symptoms which might tell you if you have Covid-19. Does everyone know them?

Those are the most important facts.

So why did you try you frighten the shit out of us when you posted at 14:58 on the 25th of March?.

It is bollocks and whoever gave it to you needs a damned good slap... as do you for passing it on. You did not need to "police that communique" all you had to do was read it, engage brain.... and then bin it. You are not an idiot..... ?

What you have done is to re-post on a public forum the sort of misinformation available on, shall we say, "social media", it is nonsense and you know it, It is indefensible.

It is NOT the frigging flu and never will be The symptoms are similar, but so is being hit by a petrol car or a diesel bus - Similar outcome, different vehicle.
