Oh what a conundrum.

If he does not sack him there are plenty of back benchers and opposition parties waiting to tear him a new one.

They might just have got away with it if Cummings had been forced to pay a hefty - and I mean hefty - police fine for contravening the lockdown. But they didn't go down that route.

And subsequently Cummings completely shot himself in the foot with that petulant display when interviewed outside his house.

I agree, by all moral standards, he ought to go.

There are reports that he made a second trip on the 19th.

There will be groups looking at ANPR camera details from potential routes and also for CCTV from filing stations on those same routes. Very few cars have a 500 mile+ range so he will have needed at least one stop per trip.

And this morning there are reports that Steve Baker, a prominent member of the 1922 Committee of backbench Tories, has said Cummings should be sacked. Cummings has few friends on the back benches and even fewer in the media.

If lockdown isn't relaxed shortly it will break down anyway. The death rate is coming down; lockdown has achieved what it was supposed to achieve which is to stop the NHS being overwhelmed.
Most of the Nightingale hospitals weren't used. My daughter spoke to a friend who is a manager in the NHS up here. Some of the ventilators ordered for Leeds were surplus to requirements and were sent to London.
Plus the economy is going off a cliff. If lockdown isn't eased how many people will die because of undiagnosed illnesses, commit suicide after depression etc?
Cummings might go. His approach has earned him enemies in the Civil Service. But imo this is all part of government bashing which is going to go on until the next election.

And once lock down is eased, the spotlight will fade.

Sample testing of antibody kits has shown an average 17% hit rate for London. Before you rush to find the population of London, let me tell you that is predicting there are 1.5 million who were infected in London alone.

Reason why London is dropping in numbers? Best guess is the number of people who have had it and are not getting it again. But that is just a guess, not a fact.

I recognise deflection when I see it - and I do see it.

From the reports I have read and heard most of the bashing has been centred on the behaviour of Mr Mop-head's special advisor (SPAD), Cummings, who broke the rules he partly formulated for the public to adhere to.

There are now claims that he made two more trips to Durham over and above the one in March, the spotlight on Saturday, on the 12th and 19th of April.

And who are the loudest bashers? Well now, they are Tory MPs, and they are not holding back in their criticism of Cummings. Of course there are MPs from other parties joining in, but that has always been the case regardless of the colour of the crew in power.

Cummings freely put himself in the firing line, so it is no surprise that those in the Tory party who are not his fanboys and girls are taking their free shots.
