When I was pregnant with the twins I had the notion to make bread for the first time.

It was a disaster. :shock:

If I said it could've been used as a doorstop I would not be exaggerating. :lol: :lol:

Bless Don and Craig..they chewed their way through it. :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

As a result it was years (in fact it was here on VV with Debih's easy bread recipe) that got me trying again. :P

Although I adore cooking 'food' IYSWIM, I'm still a bit nervous with bread and pastry so this today has boosted my confidence. :D :D

That's the third time this week someone's said I'm 'wise' :shock: Won't be long before it gets 'old' in front of it :D

Just managed to get into town - no salad to speak of, but a stall flogging off its asparagus for £1 a bunch, so that was an easy decision :)
Hmmm, thinking now. Save some of the asparagus, plus there's a courgette - beginning to sound like a pizza topping for tomorrow or Monday :D

I have wondered about pizza flour. I use lots of flour but tend to stick to the same sort for everything - I am going to try out different flours.

I will get some pizza flour and try that out first I think.

S has been making hot cross buns this afternoon but the only flour we had was strong bread flour - I use that for cakes as well. But I really ought to have bread flour and cake flour in.

I'm not sure I've seen pizza flour Debih.
I do always, always use proper strong bread flour, usually 3/4 wholemeal to 1/4 white for loaves, white for pizza of course.
The recipe I have for hot cross buns uses bread flour anyway, but I do use plain white and SR, not bread flour, for cakes, biscuits too although wouldn't worry if all I had was bread flour for biscuits, flapjacks, things like that.

I have started making pizzas again since wise old Di ( :lol: :P ) has given me some tips. I'm making them today and I just use a pack of bread mix which is great :D

I am pretty sure that I have seen it in Sainsburys Di.

I am very lucky in that we have a lovely flour mill just a few miles from us - unfortunately it isn't in an area that I go to often so I would have to make a special journey to buy it. But the cafe below our office stocks it so I am able to just nip in whenever I need flour. They do pizza flour, normal flour (plain, SR and wholemeal), malted flake flour, pizza flour, french stick flour, pastry flour, camparaign (an authentic French flour), spelt flour, barley flour, rye flour, cornflour, gluten free flour and oats!

I really ought to utilise it more - all I ever buy is strong plain flour and SR flour. And yeast.

Oh Debih how lovely, I bet it tastes gooooooooood :)

I've had flour from here:

The bread is very superior when you use flours like that, although of course any homemade bread is always going to be far better than any you can buy ;)
Lidl's bread flour is brill, but unfortunately they only do white.

I hear ya WM.

Never had a takeaway pizza in my life (yuk)

Always having made my own toppings on (very decent) shop bought bases, now I have a bit more confidence on the old make your own base front, I think I'll carry on.
