What a surprise #sarcasm off

Well well.
There is an outbreak of Covid 19 in Wakefield.
At Urban House. What is Urban House? It is a dispersal centre for asylum seekers.
Whilst the entire country has been under lockdown these illegal economic immigrants, sorry, poor people fleeing war and persecution, have continued to pitch up on our shores. Sometimes literally, as they jump out of a dinghy on some south coast beach.
From whence they are sent around the country to "initial accomodation centres" like Urban House, where they stay for an average of 19 days before being accomodated somewhere else.
So while we have been living under lockdown these people have been coming in from Christ knows where, being sent untested to the Wakefields and Barnsleys and Rochdales of this world and then sent somewhere else again.
I am so mad about this. The next "initial accomodation centre" should be built in Islington, or Notting Hill, or Hampstead, where all the bleeding heart white liberals live. And the one after that built right next to their boltholes in the country, where they will doubtless leg it to at the first opportunity. Let Tony Blair and Polly Toynbee and the rest of them sweat a bit.
Wakefield Council says that it is "a small outbreak". I wouldn't trust Wakefield Council to order me a pizza - I used to work for them once.
If the "migrants" are in Urban House for 19 days they could be spreading Covid around Wakefield, and then spreading it wherever they get sent next.
The asylum system is a bad joke already and this just makes it worse.

Urban House houses 300 asylum seekers for about 21 days whilst their affairs are sorted out. During their time there they are given clothes, fed, watered and offered medical help. Volunteers offer various social activities including ESOL lessons..... then they are set free.

Well, as free as one can be on £36.95 per week per person. They cannot register with a GP, do (legal) paid work or have a bank account until they are given leave to stay, so where do they go and what do they do, and who is keeping tabs on them?

Homes of multiple occupancy owned by slum landlords in the poorest parts of town and then entry into the black economy would be my guess.

I see that on July the 2nd Wakefield recorded 1,602 people as testing positive for Covid, up from 792 the previous day giving Wakefield 464 cases per 100,000 people, higher than the England average of 436. That's a jump of over 100% compared to Leicester's 22%. It was batted away as being the result of the new counting process where Pillar 1 & 2 results are combined.

Well quite honestly, unless they are coming from South America, or the US, people coming here are more likely to catch Covid from us, than we are from them!

If that makes me a bleeding-heart liberal, then so be it *shrugs*

Well, now you know how us Dorset residents feel when we see the hordes descending on Bournemouth beach, or the queues up the cliff path at Durdle Door that bore more than a slight resemblance to the queues up the final ridge of Everest. Thankfully we haven't had a noticeable spike. So far.

There has been much suggestion down here that beaches are closed and people turned away at the county boundary.

It really doesn't matter whether it's sarf Londoners or immigrants, TBH. You need to restrict all movement of people, both internally and externally; immigrants, for example, should remain in their county of arrival and Londoners in London. For this reason, (and I know it will not be popular on this forum, but it's how I personally feel), I would be in complete favour of banning all international travel in and out of this country, and also between the 4 constituent territories of the UK for the foreseeable. And then ramp up testing and apply individual postcode-based lockdowns when and where necessary.

Whatever our individual views, I'm sure there's one thing on which we can pretty much all agree - the Government simply does not have a clue about coping with this crisis.

Well I'm obviously a thick northern brexit voting racist.

Apart from the fact that family members have had direct contact with these poor, poor people.

And the truth is far too strong for some people on here to want to hear.

So I'dbetter shut up for a good long while.

I absolutely agree with you Crommers

We have seen upwards of 5 boats a day coming in to Dover and Ramsgate over the past few weeks, so far more than in the whole of last year, goodness knows how many more land unseen. They're coming in from France and when tested the vast majority are found to be Covid positive, so NOT catching it here, definitely bringing it in with them These are not refugees in the true sense of the word, they are economic migrants and frankly you won't find many people around here who want them. It's well past time for this to be stopped.
