I know this subject has been done to death.

And very likely there is nothing new left to say.
But today I found out why the car park of a hotel in an up market village near Wakefield had (very unusually) no cars in the guests car park.
Because it is now full of asylum seekers. As is the 300 place asylum seeker centre in Wakefield. As is the Cedar Court Hotel just off the M1 from Wakefield, though I belive they are still taking other guests as well. As was the Days Inn in Wakefield last year.
Just sick of it, that's all.

Well I have said it before and I will keep on saying it. There are plenty of disused military bases up and down the land with accommodation blocks where hundreds of service personnel who volunteered to serve their country were housed for the time they served. If they were good enough for those doing their bit then they are damned well good enough for asylum seekers (real and bogus) and illegal immigrants who are awaiting processing or deportation.

Oh, what am I saying, we don;t deport the bogus and illegals, the bleeding heart brigades won't let us and the politicians don't have the backbone to act.

Ohhhhhhhhh.....I emailed the Cedar Court Hotel to see if they have a 24 hour reception for when we see Green Day next year. Never had a reply but I keep getting emails from Tripadvisor advertising their best rates etc.
I’ve booked a Premier Inn near Wakefield instead :?

There is certainly precedent. When Idi Amin expelled the Ugandan Asians in 1972 and around 27,000 of them came to the UK, Houndstone Army Camp on the outskirts of Yeovil was used as a reception centre / staging post. I'm sure there must have been others across the country. Houndstone is long since closed now, buried under a trading estate, but there must be other redundant MOD facilities lying around which could be used to securely accommodate asylum seekers whilst their status is determined.

And it is only going to get worse. Another 200 odd migrants arrived by boat illegally from France last Thursday; it was a record number. And the UK and France are now reported to have failed to reach a treaty agreement on how to tackle the problem. It wouldn't surprise me if the French weren't aiding and abetting the migrants, to be honest, given the current political atmosphere, Brexit and all that ....

Spot on Ossie, the French Border Force have been filmed escorting some of these boats and handing them over to our Border Force. Oh and the majority arriving are testing positive. Honestly you couldn't make it up. The vast majority of people here in Thanet are thoroughly fed up with it.

Ditto Crommers, nail on head.

I find it depressing to read about these successful crossings across the Channel on a daily basis. Unless firm action is taken there will be no end to it and I agree that the French could be aiding and abetting it.

On the subject of Brexit, our financial contribution is all that concerns the Bureaucrats in the EU.

I wonder if there are though Os? There have been so many armed forces bases closed it's unreal. Doncaster Robin Hood airport used to be RAF Finningley. We went to air shows there when I was a boy. RAF Linton on Ouse is closing this year. That site is in the "golden triangle" between York, Harrogate and Leeds and the land there is worth many, many millions. RAF Bampton Castle, closed 2003, RAF Burton Wood closed 1994, now a trading estate. RAF Cardington closed 2000, now mainly housing. RAF Church Fenton, sold 2013....

Honestly, the list just goes on and on, and this is just the RAF.

Somebody somewhere has made an absolute fortune out of all this.

I thing you've done the right thing Jo. Some of the hotels in Wakefield I wouldn't board a chimp in. Tripadvisor is definitely your friend in times like these!
