Storm

We’ve got a beauty going on here. We had a bit of rain and thunder earlier but now it’s just constant flashes of lightning. From the front of the house we can see it over Birmingham, from the side it’s over Telford and at the back we’re seeing flashes over Stafford.

It’s done nothing to clear the air though.

Ah yes, those flashing all over Stafford.

A damned nuisance they were when making one's way back to the RAF camp down Sandon Road after a few jars in town. We were the RAF, FGS not the Royal Navy!

It is just muggy, here. No wind, 26 degrees and humidity at 92%. I have made a spritz bottle to keep by the side of the bed.

I love a good thunderstorm! We are supposed to be getting thundery showers from midday tomorrow through to Friday, but even that's not certain.

It's just uncomfortably sultry here now.

A few FB friends that live 'up north' were commenting last night about the storms.

We had such a muggy night last night - I even had the fan on; which never happens. We're apparently due storms and rain etc as of midday today with the rain set to last through to Tuesday next week; it will be very welcome; the ground is so bone dry and everything is absolutely parched.

We had darkening skies, one crack of thunder and one bolt of lightening, a few heavy rain drops and that was it.

Mind you thats what we had last Friday and the one bolt of lightening struck near Luke and took out his Wi-Fi. Hopefully missed him tonight we cant afford another router

At about 7 tonight we had the most violent storm I have ever seen. First there was a really weird strong sideways gust of wind, followed by enormous hailstones, then lightning, thunder, and torrential rain! Poor Fraggle was beside himself, we had to give him a pill

All of this was followed by wailing sirens

Bill’s had to have his calming spray and Me and John have sat on the floor holding and stroking him, Kaz.

We’d gone to take the shopping to my Mom and Dad’s, it’s probably not even only two miles away and driving back there was an almighty bang and the brightest flash, the car shook and we wondered at first if we’d been struck. Locals on social media are trying to find out where it hit in the village and it’s taken the power out on one of the estates.

Last evening, around 19:30, we lost power due to an ongoing storm. I'd left the generator at #1 son's (about a 20 minute drive away), and went to get it. I drove through the heart of the storm, appears that we only got the tail edge of it. Within about 60 seconds the tree's were whipping all over the place, rain was bucketing down, branches flying everywhere, constant sheet lightning every 10 seconds with attendant thunder, then the finale, it dumped hailstones the size of marbles. So much so that I was driving on a sheet of ice 2" thick and having to use winter driving techniques to stay on the road. On the 12th aug, I ask you.

Well I got there, brought back the genny and just as I was closing the garage doors, the power came back on.

Upside. What the carwash didn't get off the front of the car, the hailstones did. Pristine...

We've had a 10 minute tropical downpour here this afternoon, with a bit of thunder and lightning thrown in, but nothing like what some of you other folk are reporting.

Anyway, it soaked the lawn and the shrubs, and replenished the water butt, so I'm not grumbling ....

Well our storm made the local BBC news tonight, Points West at 6.30! Part of the roof came in on the 9th floor of Gloucester Royal - luckily no patients or staff were hurt. Two trees in the grounds exploded from the heat
