Directory Enquiries

Postby meriad » 07 Sep 2020, 11:31

My local radio station was taken over so I've switched to a different one. New station every so often has the advertisement for "Maureen 118 212 - directory enquiries"

But at calls costing £2.50 per call plus £0.75 per minute (and there is a one minute minimum charge) you're down £3.25 before you've even said hello; oh and plus any charges your line provider may charge.... do people actually still use number enquires?

What a rip off!

The cheapest "over the phone" system I have found is the Post Office at £1 (fixed) per call plus any operator charge for local rate, however, depending on your phone package that charge could be £0.

If you have the Internet, and we all do, and you know the name of the company / business it is easy to get free or low cost 'Contact Us' numbers using a simple search. Another option is https://www.192.com/people/directory-enquiries/

If I come across a number that’s chargeable like this I always look on https://www.saynoto0870.com/ to see if there’s a free or cheaper alternative.

Just to say that https://www.192.com/people/directory-enquiries/ is a free Internet based service for numbers that you do not know.

SayNoTo0870 will try to find an alternative local rate number instead of those expensive 0842, 0843, 0844, 0845, 0870, 0871, 0872 or 0873 numbers. It will look for an 01, 02 or 03 number or a free 0800 or 0808 number, if they are available.
