Makes no sense Saundra. Our kettle is on it's last legs, the switch often won't stay own. So if I wanted to buy a new one, I couldn't, so would have to boil water in a pan.

No idea what has happened to common sense

And the answer to your question, Saundra, is that if your kettle goes and you're desperate - you have no choice but to buy from Amazon. So both High Street stores and supermarkets lose.

As a standalone argument that is fine, but it does raise a few questions:
1. Why were the independent shops selling these goods closed in the first place - they are not exactly hotbeds of social mixing?
2. Who decides what is non-essential in these dangerous times?

It's all a bit mad.

Absolutely bonkers. As you say Ossie, people will just go online where you can buy pretty much anything you need. A great help for all the small shops he's supposed to be protecting!!

This was the argument of a lot of smaller shops in Germany when lock-down first started with the results that the smaller shops were allowed to open a lot sooner than was originally planned. And I get where they are coming from, either the items can't be sold or they can - doesn't matter who sells them does it? And as you've said - the only winner at the end of this is a large off-shore company that doesn't pay (much if any) UK taxes.
